Material
Luxurious, classic and timeless. At all times, marble has symbolized exclusivity and the beautiful natural stone manages to stay current as an interior design trend. Marble means "shiny stone" and is a limestone-based stone loved for its beautiful veins, shades of color and the charming fact that no two stones are alike. Marble is a living material that varies in color, texture and veins. Two signs that marble is genuine are the presence of lime spar and sand pits. Lime spar looks like crushed crystals and originates from water veins in the rock where lime from the water has solidified. Sand pits are small cavities on the surface that are air bubbles from when the stone was formed.
Origin
Marble is originally a limestone and belongs to the rock type that goes by the name "metamorphic stone" - a stone that has undergone transformation. Carrara marble is undoubtedly the most famous and talked about natural stone in the world and the Carrara Mountains began to form approximately 190 million years ago. During the millions of years, these limestones have been exposed to enormous pressures and temperatures in the bedrock, which created what we today call "marbling", which are actually small impurities in the stone - very beautiful impurities. Treated limestone is a practical and incredibly beautiful material to use as decoration in the home. The hard-wearing material combined with its timelessness means that limestone is perfectly suited to several different styles. Limestone is a beautiful natural stone that has a strong historical expression. Fossils are a common feature that gives the material more life and a sense of the animal and plant life that existed when the rock was formed. The frequency of fossils varies in the different layers of the rock, thus they occur in varying degrees. Veins of quartz occur naturally in limestone. These were, millions of years ago, cracks in the material that nature has filled up and repaired with calcite. The stone is extremely durable at these veins. Together with fossils, the quartzite veins add another unique, natural signature to the limestone.
Our Natural Stone
Marble By Me mainly uses marble from Turkey, this is partly because we want to promote the country in which we have our production and because, thanks to its geological structure, the country has a rich potential when it comes to natural stones. Research shows that there are about 650 different color and texture types of marble in Turkey. Currently, there are more than 2,000 mines in the country and Turkey is the country with the largest variety of marble in the world. The country is one of the oldest marble-producing countries in the world, with a production history of more than 4,000 years. The earliest origin was Marmara Island in the Sea of Marmara. 90% of Turkey's marble mines are located in the western part of Turkey, of which the Marmara, Aegean region and Afyon province are particularly important.
The versatility of Natural Stone
Marble has been used to create some of history's most outstanding works of art. David by Michelangelo, Venus of Milo in the Louvre, Paris and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, USA – these are just a few of the famous works of art in history that are made of marble. The material has been chosen for its purity and luxury since ancient times. For many millennia, artists and sculptors have appreciated marble for its slightly translucent surface, depth and realism of statues of human figures. As mentioned, marble is very versatile and has a strong character. The marble is not only beautiful, if you care for it properly, it can have a really long life for sustainable consumption. What is important before buying products made of natural materials is to understand the following: a natural material is what it is, it cannot be influenced and that is why we love the material, it is part of its charm that all natural materials are unique.
